Good morning world! How would you like a new pair of socks?
A few years ago, I was given some squishy Debbie Bliss Toast yarn to play with by Lovecrafts.com and my Dolly Socks were born – a single colour lacework ankle sock that looks particularly adorable with a pair of Mary Janes.

But as I’m slowly reemerging into the world after a rather tricky few years, I’m now revisiting some of my old patterns to see if they still speak to me, or to tweak them into something new.
And that’s where my Polly Socks come in. A rather sturdier, longer version of Dolly, with a stabilising rib cuff and reinforced toes and heels, worked this time in indie-dyed superwash merino sock wool. It always feels a little ridiculous to be knitting socks in a heatwave, but by the time the second was underway, we had moved inside, the Lorax was on, and the sitting room utterly trashed 😉

So these are the reasons behind the new version:
- While I love the Dolly, personally I tend to wear slightly longer socks – I wear a lot of wide-legged trousers and I prefer to be warmer further up the lower leg, so I wanted more length, and a ribbed cuff to hold it together.
- I also wanted to showcase how they would both look in a less solid colour.
- I tend to be quite hard on my socks and wear them to death, so I wanted to provide an option for a reinforced heel / toe, with a sturdier heel type (my current favourite – the Dutch heel)

If you give them a go, please share your work with me – I always enjoy seeing people’s creations / tweaks / reimaginations!
