Most Easterly Sweater

£3.50

Inspired by a recent move to Lowestoft – the most Easterly town in the UK – this Most Easterly Sweater is the first I have finished writing up since we arrived. It is relatively simple, and might therefore even be attempted by an ambitious beginner. A squishy roll neck sits atop coils of colour block stripes. Designed in a looser style, in Drops Andes yarn which is 65% wool, 35% alpaca and super soft, with a generous body and sleeves, it is perfect for layering up for a brisk walk along South Beach.

You can, of course, knit the whole thing in one colour if you prefer, or mix it up with stripes – the world is your oyster.

Available in 5 sizes: from a UK 10-12 to a UK 22-24 – sizes ranging from 36” to 50” approximately.

You will need:
▪ 10/12 1100g (C1: 100g, C2: 100g, C3: 100g, C4: 200g, C5: 300g, C6: 300g) *
▪ 14/16 1200g (C1: 100g, C2: 100g, C3: 100g, C4: 200g, C5: 400g, C6: 300g) *
▪ 16/18 1300g (C1: 100g, C2: 200g, C3: 100g, C4: 200g, C5: 400g, C6: 300g) *
▪ 20/22 1500g (C1: 100g, C2: 200g, C3: 100g, C4: 300g, C5, 400g, C6: 400g) *

▪ 7mm circular knitting needles 8mm circular knitting needles 9mm circular knitting needles 10mm circular knitting needles, all at least 80cm long, though I tend to buy 100cm or 120cm long (or even longer!) and use the magic loop method, so that I can try it on without the faff of transferring it to scrap yarn
▪ Stitch markers
▪ tapestry needle for sewing in ends.
* A NOTE ON YARN You will not use all the yarn. Because of the different colours used, you will use a lot more of the body colours, and a lot less of the yoke colours. If you were knitting it in one solid colour, it would take less yarn. For example, the 10/12 size jumper, completed, weighs 720g. There is a lot of leftover yarn to make a hat or three with! See note below for approximately how much yarn you would need to knit this pattern in a single solid colour
Sweater pictured is the smallest size – 10/12 – so you can see how generous it is. It would also comfortably fit a size 14.

Gauge: 10sts / 15 rows to 10cm

*ANOTHER NOTE ON YARN If you were to knit this sweater in a single colour, you would need a lot less yarn. Some colours, for example, might use 3.1 balls of yarn for one colour, so you’d have to buy 4. I plan to design a hat in the next little while to use up those Andes yarn scraps so that nothing is wasted. Here are the numbers of balls you would need in a single solid colour:
10/12: 7.4 balls
14/16: 8 balls
16/18: 8.4 balls
20/22: 9.8 balls
22/24: 10.4 balls

Sweater pictured is the smallest size – 10/12 – so you can see how generous it is. It would also comfortably fit a size 14.
